Allandale Woods

Next to Arnold Arboretum with walking paths to ponds, streams, marsh.

  • Allandale Woods is an 86-acre woods located west of Arnold Arboretum on the JP/West Roxbury line, featuring multiple paths leading to ponds, streams, and a cattail marsh. Activities include hiking, bird watching, and trail running.

Billings Field

Billings Field

Multi-use park, playground, and sports facilities with paved circular path.

  • Billings Field contains multiple baseball fields and other sports fields, as well as tennis and basketball courts. There are two playgrounds and a walking path around the park. Summer site for outdoor concerts and movie nights.

Brook Farm Historic Site

Brook Farm Historic Site

Historical site and park with walking trails, wildlife, and a picnic area.

  • A designated National Historic Site for an earlier experimental society, this large 179-acre park includes fields and wetlands, walking trails and a picnic area. Great for viewing wildlife, this park is adjacent to Millennium Park.

    Amenities: Hiking, paved trails, wildlife viewing, picnic area

Cutler Park

Cutler Park

Huge park, wetlands, and pond along the Charles with hiking, fishing, canoeing.

  • This sprawling 600-acre park, protecting the Charles River's largest marsh and Kendrick Pond, offers extensive walking trails. Great for birdwatching, walking, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing/kayaking, and xc skiing in winter.

    Amenities: Hiking, paved and dirt trails, fishing, kayak/canoe rentals

Fallon Field Playground

Fallon Field

Small park with baseball fields, tennis courts, climbing structures, sledding hill.

  • This park in nearby Roslindale packs in multiple sports fields, tennis and basketball courts. It also features a climbing, ropes and slides structure with a small playground. In winter it offers an excellent sledding hill.

Hancock Woods

Hancock Woods

Good spot for a short hike through woods or walk along a mile-long trail.

  • These woods off the VFW Parkway, adjacent to the Mt. Benedict Cemetery, are a good spot for a short hike or easy stroll along a mile-long walking trail. The park is accessible from a trail at the back of the Independence Drive parking lot off of the VFW Parkway.

Millennium Park

Millennium Park

Big multi-use park with spectacular panoramic views, hiking, canoe access.

  • Popular with families, sports clubs, joggers and mountain bikers, this hilltop park offers spectacular views, excellent birding, and hiking trails that connect to the Charles River network. Also offers public canoe access to the Charles River.
